What to Expect After a Chiropractic Adjustment

What to Expect After a Chiropractic Adjustment

While most people think chiropractic adjustments are primarily for back pain, chiropractic care is effective for treating headaches, neck pain, muscle strain, and numbness. Additionally, chiropractic adjustments can also improve muscle functioning and healing. In fact, more people are turning to chiropractors than ever before

Chiropractic adjustments have become so popular because they reduce the need for pain medicine, are safe and non-invasive, and are proven to reduce pain and stiffness.

At Nutura Clinic in Portland, Oregon, chiropractic physician Maxwell Muehleip, DC, affectionately called Dr. Max, offers chiropractic adjustments to realign your spine and restore balance and health throughout your body.

Wondering what to expect after a chiropractic treatment session? While different people experience different sensations, Dr. Max explains some common things to expect during and after an adjustment.

During your treatment, you will lie face down on a comfortable, cushioned table while Dr. Max applies pressure to the affected joints in your back or neck. With this pressure, most people hear satisfying cracking or popping sounds as the pressure is released from their joints.

Mild soreness

Many people initially experience slightly sore and achy muscles for a couple of hours following a chiropractic adjustment as their body adjusts to the new alignment. An ice pack can help reduce soreness, but even without ice, the achiness should resolve within 24 hours.

Cold symptoms

You may experience a runny nose or congestion after your treatment. This is your body’s way of excreting built-up toxins in your system. By flushing these harmful toxins from your body, you boost your immune system.

It’s not uncommon to feel a bit fatigued after your first few sessions. Your body is working hard to rid itself of toxins and get in balance. If you do feel tired, rest and give your body a chance to recharge.

Take care of yourself

As your body is recovering from a chiropractic adjustment, be sure to drink plenty of water, exercise, rest, and eat a healthy, balanced diet. This helps optimize the effects of your treatment and expedites the flushing of toxins from your muscles and body.

Most people will need several sessions, depending on their pain and issues. Ready for pain relief and balance? Call Nutura Clinic to schedule a consultation with Dr. Max. You can also conveniently book an appointment through our online scheduling tool.
